Aguero Shines with Second Hat-trick in Eight Days
Manchester City regained the Premier League lead on Sunday, February 10th, 2019, with a resounding 6-0 victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium. Sergio Aguero was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick to take his tally to 13 goals in his last eight matches.
Aguero opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a coolly taken penalty after Raheem Sterling was fouled by Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Argentine striker doubled the lead just six minutes later, tapping home from close range after a fine pass from Bernardo Silva.
Chelsea, who had won their previous two matches under new manager Maurizio Sarri, were unable to respond to City's dominance. Aguero completed his hat-trick in the 56th minute with a superb strike from the edge of the area.
Ilkay Gundogan added a fourth for City in the 72nd minute, before substitutes Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez rounded off the scoring in the final 10 minutes. The victory was City's biggest ever against Chelsea in the Premier League era.
The result leaves City top of the table with 65 points from 25 games, one point ahead of Liverpool. Chelsea remain in sixth place on 47 points from 26 games.
